Welcome to The Chapel:
Your Local Pub and Restaurant in Taunton
Step inside a place where history meets hospitality!
Our pub isn’t just a place to eat—it’s a slice of Somerset history! Come for the food, stay for the charm. With cosy corners, rustic beams, and a roaring fireplace.
Built in 1898, this beautiful building served the large Victorian mental asylum on the site of a tiny hamlet called Cotford. A firm of London architects won a prestigious national competition for their design. When the hospital closed in 1995, the Chapel was grade two listed, but fell into disrepair for over a decade. Building started in 1999 on what would become the thriving village of Cotford St Luke, which now has over a thousand houses.

Recognised by local people as a building that should be used by the whole community, The Chapel first opened as a pub and restaurant in 2008.
In December 2022 Steve and Tracey Elliott took on The Chapel as a family-run venue. Residents of Cotford St Luke since 2008, their vision and hard work have given the building new life.
Steve and Tracey are passionate about making The Chapel a welcoming space for everyone. As a family-run pub and local Britstop destination, they bring a personal touch to everything they do. You’ll often find them running the bar, chatting with guests, and ensuring everyone feels at home. Their strong focus on community and inclusivity makes The Chapel standout among pubs in Taunton.
